Install
npx -y @smithery/cli install mcp-twikit --client claudeWho it's for
For people already using Claude Desktop who want to search Twitter or view their own timeline inside a conversation. This is an MCP service that talks to Twitter. Official docs recommend installing into Claude Desktop automatically with Smithery.
Not for people who do not yet have Twitter username, email, and password in the environment but want to run the tools immediately. Manual setup states you need TWITTER_USERNAME, TWITTER_EMAIL, and TWITTER_PASSWORD. The Smithery install command itself does not say how to fill those three; without usable login data, search_twitter and get_timeline cannot work as in the examples.

First try in 3 minutes
Follow only the official path: install into Claude Desktop with Smithery. Do not treat the uvx manual path as the primary install.
npx -y @smithery/cli install mcp-twikit --client claude
Prerequisites: npx on this machine, Claude Desktop able to take MCP, and Twitter username, email, and password ready for login (those three names come from the manual setup notes). The config location is the MCP entry Smithery writes into Claude Desktop; the client id is claude.
The first call uses the source-named read-only search search_twitter, with parameters as in the source example: query is to:IndiHomeCare, count is 20, sort_by is Latest. Do not invent other parameter names. Success: Claude Desktop has this server installed, and one search_twitter returns results sorted by Latest, not a login failure. This reaches the Twitter network; it is not "offline, no reads".
Use cases
Case 1: search tweets by query. Use search_twitter. The source example looks up to:IndiHomeCare, asks for 20 items, sorted by Latest. For people who already know the search term and only want recent matches. The evidence does not guarantee that query has data, and it does not name every sort value.
Case 2: view your home timeline. Use get_timeline. The source says “retrieve the latest tweets from your timeline”, and the example parameters are empty. For people who are logged in and only want the newest tweets on their timeline. The evidence does not describe paging or a count parameter; do not invent them.
Limits
The main path is Smithery's npx -y @smithery/cli install mcp-twikit --client claude. The manual path uses uvx and --from pointing at this repository, and sets TWITTER_USERNAME, TWITTER_EMAIL, and TWITTER_PASSWORD; that is not the primary install. The evidence only names search_twitter and get_timeline, plus the three search parameters above. Do not put sample emails or passwords from the docs into the config. Official repository:
