Find a chart and render it to SVG with @microcharts/mcp

Read microcharts://catalog first, then render an SVG with alt text from data/props, using npx -y @microcharts/mcp; official copy says local stdio and no hosted account, but it still processes the series you provide.

Who it's for

For people who want a model to pick a word-sized chart, learn how to wire it, and render a finished SVG with real alt text. Official copy says An MCP server and Vercel AI-SDK toolset for microcharts — let a model find the right word-sized chart, get exactly how to wire it, and render it to a finished SVG with real alt text. Product page: https://microcharts.dev/

Prerequisite: this machine can run npx, and you add @microcharts/mcp to the client with the official JSON. Named locations are Claude Desktop's claude_desktop_config.json, or Cursor's .cursor/mcp.json.

Official copy also says Runs on your machine, stdio server, distributed on npm, Nothing is hosted; no account, no key, no data leaves. This is still not zero risk: the process runs on this machine and reads the series you pass in order to render. Do not read that as no privacy boundary.

First try in 3 minutes

Use only npx -y @microcharts/mcp. The config has command npx and args -y and @microcharts/mcp. Do not open a hosted endpoint.

Prerequisite: you can write one of those two config files. Official docs do not require an account or key.

Install and run locations: Claude Desktop uses claude_desktop_config.json; Cursor uses .cursor/mcp.json. The server name is microcharts.

One low-risk observation: first read the resource microcharts://catalog (every chart + metadata). Official excerpts write find, get, render as capabilities, without tool function names, so the first time only read the catalog resource; do not invent function names.

Success signal: you see the chart catalog and metadata. Official docs do not list catalog fields.

Use cases

Case 1: Browse the catalog. Read microcharts://catalog and confirm which word-sized charts exist and their metadata. Read only; do not pass series data.

Case 2: Render a finished SVG. Official copy says Render to a finished, self-contained SVG plus its generated alt text. Put the series in data; other props include value, target, curve, color, width. Before calling, confirm these numbers are the ones you want to draw. There is also resource microcharts://agent-setup, the prompt for wiring microcharts into a codebase; that is a wiring prompt, not the render itself.

Limits

Render produces an SVG and alt text; official docs do not write a save path or undo. find / get / render do not appear as function names; do not invent a call set.
