Use Obsidian skills to write notes with bidirectional links

For people who want an agent to write Markdown in the Obsidian style — provided the agent is compatible with Agent Skills, and you take only the official npx skills add as the main path.

Who it's for

Use this skill set when you want an agent compatible with Agent Skills to create and edit Markdown in the Obsidian style. It teaches the agent to handle Obsidian Flavored Markdown, that is notes with .md, and to use bidirectional links, embeds, callouts, properties, and other Obsidian-specific syntax. Syntax notes:

Official repository:

The source writes that these skills follow the Agent Skills specification, so any agent compatible with that specification can use them. Do not copy a few product names that appeared in the specification into the body as the usage scope, and do not infer that only those environments can install. If you have no compatible agent, or you are not ready to run the official install command on this machine, do not continue yet.

This is for people who already have an Obsidian note habit and want the agent to write Markdown the vault can understand correctly. If you only want ordinary Markdown and do not need bidirectional links or properties, you need not take this skill. Specification address:

First try in 3 minutes

First confirm the current agent can receive Agent Skills. Open the official repository and check:

https://github.com/kepano/obsidian-skills

Recommended install is only this one. Installing skills writes skill files on this machine; before you run it, confirm you want this Obsidian skill set left here:

npx skills add https://github.com/kepano/obsidian-skills

The address in the command must match the official repository exactly. Success signal: this command ends normally. The source does not write a generic skill landing directory; do not invent a path. The source also has plugin or clone wordings aimed at particular clients; the first time, do not put them beside this as a second main path, and do not apply marketplace commands to environments that never said how they receive them.

The first time in the agent, only check; do not change a live note vault yet. Ask the agent to state what bidirectional links, embeds, callouts, and properties are in Obsidian Flavored Markdown, and how it plans to create or edit a .md file. The observation is that it can recite these syntax points and has not written any file yet.

If you next want one real create or edit, first name a disposable note and confirm this run will change disk. The source gives no vault path or filename sample; do not invent a library location. The first time, do not batch-edit multiple files, and do not invent CLI subcommands that never appeared.

Use cases

Case 1: First confirm the skills are installed via the official npx path. In an agent compatible with Agent Skills, after you accept that this machine will write skill files, only run npx skills add, target address

https://github.com/kepano/obsidian-skills

Fits people who only want to attach Obsidian skills to an agent and are not ready to change notes. Success signal: the install command ends normally, and the agent can say it will create and edit Markdown with bidirectional links, embeds, callouts, and properties. The source does not write a post-install directory tree; do not invent filenames. If install fails, stop; do not switch to a plugin or clone command that was not chosen as the main path.

Case 2: Try one create or edit on a disposable note. The source writes that you can create and edit Obsidian Flavored Markdown; syntax includes bidirectional links, embeds, callouts, and properties. Fits people who already installed the skills and want to see whether the agent writes .md in Obsidian syntax. Before you run it, confirm the target file can be discarded and you accept this write to disk; after it finishes, open that .md and check that the syntax above appears, not ordinary plain text. The source gives no concrete filename, vault path, or command-line switch; do not invent them. Do not treat other formats mentioned in a title but not in the excerpt as already executable steps.

Boundaries

The main path is only npx skills add; the address must be

https://github.com/kepano/obsidian-skills

The source also wrote plugin-marketplace and clone-into-a-particular-client-directory installs; that is not the first-try main path. Do not put them beside npx, and do not extend them to unexplained environments. Skills follow the Agent Skills specification and apply only to agents compatible with it:

https://agentskills.io/specification

Capability range is creating and editing Obsidian Flavored Markdown, plus bidirectional links, embeds, callouts, properties, and other Obsidian-specific syntax. Help page:

Evidence gives no concrete subcommands, vault paths, or uninstall steps. Do not fill in unwritten format names, CLI operations, or exclusive-client conclusions. First-time success is only install finishing and the agent reciting syntax; before a real write to disk you must confirm the target note can be discarded. Evidence does not write uninstall, update, or how to turn this skill set off inside the agent; do not invent steps. If the agent starts changing many notes in a live vault, stop first and return to one disposable file. Do not write unwritten formats or command-line operations from the excerpt as already executable steps.
