Install
$skill-installer gh-address-commentsWho this is for
Fits individuals or teams who want to pack capabilities into repeatable tasks inside Codex. Official text: Codex uses skills to wrap capabilities so people finish specific tasks in a fixed way; this repository is a skill directory for using and distributing skills with Codex.
Better fit: people already on a newer Codex, who want to try one official install command first, or confirm which skills become ready automatically in the latest version. Poor fit: anyone treating this repository as the current example source. Official text says this repository is retired; current Codex skill and plugin examples now live in the OpenAI Plugins repository.
Before starting, you must be able to run $skill-installer inside Codex. Do not apply this command to other environments that were never written.
Finish a first try in 3 minutes
Follow only the primary install command given in the repository. The first try is install and restart only; do not act on a real repository’s comments or on an external system yet.
Precondition: the current environment can already open Codex. You intend to install the official example skill gh-address-comments and restart after install.
Install location: run inside a Codex session:
$skill-installer gh-address-comments
Official repository:
https://github.com/openai/skills
Low-risk trigger: after the command runs, restart Codex as official text requires so it can recognize the new skill. Do not assume the skill is available before restart. Official text does not say which files gh-address-comments will change or whether it will post comments; evidence stops at “install with this command.”
Success: after restart, Codex can recognize the newly installed skill. If it is still invisible, first confirm the restart happened; do not add skill names that were never named.
If you only use capabilities that ship with the latest Codex, you need not run the install command first. Official text: skills in .system install automatically in the latest Codex. How to invoke them by name after auto-install is not stepped out; evidence stops at “they install automatically.”
Usage cases
Case 1: Install one featured skill from the official example. In Codex run $skill-installer gh-address-comments, then restart. Fits people who want to verify that directory install works. Evidence names only this install target and does not describe which comments it handles or whether it writes or posts. After restart and after the skill is recognized, if you trigger it, first check what it will change or send outward, then continue.
Case 2: Use .system skills already auto-installed in the latest Codex. Fits people already on the latest version who only want skills that ship with it. Evidence only says these skills install automatically; it does not name the skills or give a trigger method. Do not rewrite .system contents into concrete skill paths; the only confirmed fact is “the latest version installs them automatically.”
Usage limits
This repository is retired. Current Codex skill and plugin examples should be read here:
https://github.com/openai/plugins
Do not keep treating this page as the latest example library.
The only officially named install command is $skill-installer gh-address-comments. Do not fill in other skill names yourself. After install you must restart Codex, or the new skill may still be unrecognized.
.system skills are only said to auto-install in the latest Codex; there is no text on how to turn them off, uninstall one, or which languages or task ranges apply.
Official text points this directory at Codex only and gives no install steps for other environments.
