Install Supabase Skills for your Agent with the official command

For developers who want an AI Agent to help with Supabase product work; the precondition is having npx locally, installing the skills only into the current project, and doing a check-only first try without changing live resources.

npx skills add supabase/agent-skills

Who it's for

This guide is for people already using, or about to use, an AI Agent for Supabase development. Officially it is written as Agent Skills that help developers use Supabase in AI agents.

Before you start, confirm this machine can run npx, and that the current directory is the project where you want the skill files written. The page states compatibility with 18+ AI agents, including Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Cline, and many others; that is a compatibility note, not an exclusive list, and you must not infer a language range from the product list.

After install, skills become available automatically, and the Agent uses them when it detects relevant tasks. On the first try, do not deliberately trigger tasks that would change the database, publish functions, or change storage.

Complete a first try in 3 minutes

Use only the recommended install command given on the page:

npx skills add supabase/agent-skills

Precondition: this machine has npx, and the current working directory is the target project root. The install location is the current project; do not rewrite this as a marketplace command or a manual-copy path that does not appear on the page.

Side-effect confirmation point: this command writes skill files into the current project. If the directory is wrong, stop first. The install itself will not automatically change your Supabase project; afterward, though, the Agent may use these skills as soon as it detects a relevant task. Confirm the directory is correct before you run it.

Success signal: the command finishes normally, and skill files appear in the project. Then do only one check: in a compatible Agent, ask a read-only question, for example how the current Database or Auth connection should be understood, and see whether it answers using the installed skills. Do not create tables, deploy Edge Functions, change Storage, or touch Cron/Queues. If the Agent is about to perform a write, stop at the confirmation point.

Use cases

Case 1: Install the official skills into the current project. In the confirmed project root, run npx skills add supabase/agent-skills. The evidence covers this command, and that it helps developers use Supabase with AI agents. The completion criterion stops at a successful install and skill files appearing. Do not add update or uninstall commands that do not appear.

Case 2: After install, do a read-only product check. The page states the skills cover any Supabase product: Database, Auth, Edge Functions, Realtime, Storage, Vectors, Cron, Queues; and that they are automatically available after install, used when the Agent detects relevant tasks. The excerpt does not give a specific slash command, so the first time only ask the Agent for a read-only explanation of one product, for example how the existing Database or Auth configuration should be understood. The observable success signal is that the Agent clearly answers from the installed skills, not that it has already changed cloud resources. Write-facing items such as Cron, Queues, and Storage appear in the product list, but that does not mean the first try should operate them.

Limits

The primary install path is only npx skills add supabase/agent-skills. The listed agents are not the exclusive supported range. Skills enable automatically when a relevant task is detected, so keep questions away from tasks that would change live data. The product list is not an authorization list. Uninstall, specific skill file names, and per-product commands do not appear in the excerpt; content that is not written there cannot be treated as a safety conclusion.
