theme-factory: View the showcase first, then theme the finished work

Fits people who want to apply a preset or a temporary theme to an existing slide deck, document, or page. The first attempt must show theme-showcase.pdf and wait for a choice; do not skip confirmation.

Who it is for

theme-factory is for people who want to put unified colors and type on finished work they already have. It is a theme toolkit. The finished work can be slides, documents, reports, HTML landing pages, and the like. The repository states there are 10 preset themes, and a new theme can also be generated on the spot from a description.

A closer fit: you already have a piece waiting for typesetting, you want to see what the 10 themes look like, then decide which one to apply. The official order is to show theme-showcase.pdf first, then ask which set to apply, and only after the other person chooses, read the matching theme file and apply colors and type uniformly.

It does not fit as an installer or a theme market. The notes give no install command and do not say that copying it into some directory finishes install. If the current assistant cannot yet invoke theme-factory, the existing notes stop here; do not reverse-engineer an install path from the page address. It also does not fit changing the finished work before someone nods: the showcase file itself must not be modified; it is for viewing only.

First attempt in 3 minutes

The official first path is not an install command. It is showing themes. The description page is https://raw.githubusercontent.com/anthropics/skills/main/skills/theme-factory/SKILL.md Follow only the steps written on this page. Do not write an install sentence that never appeared.

Prerequisite: the current assistant can already work through theme-factory’s steps, and you have a finished piece you can open read-only, such as one slide or one document. There is no install command, so the “install location” is the finished piece in this conversation, not a guessed skill directory.

Low-risk first task: first have the assistant show theme-showcase.pdf; look only, do not change it. After looking, answer which set to pick, for example Ocean Depths, which the notes name. Until you clearly say the theme name, do not approve writes to the finished work. Success signal: you have seen the showcase file, and the assistant is asking which theme to pick, not already finished changing colors.

After a choice, the assistant should read the matching theme file, apply the specified colors and type consistently across the whole piece, and keep contrast and readability. The first time, prefer applying to a disposable copy. The notes do not write which concrete filenames would change; when you see a write prompt, confirm the scope before continuing.

Usage cases

Case 1: Apply a preset theme to existing slides or other finished work. The order is fixed: show theme-showcase.pdf → ask for a choice → wait for a selection → read the matching theme file → apply colors and type uniformly, and check contrast and readability. All 10 themes are in that showcase file. The first set the notes name is Ocean Depths. This passage does not list all 10 names; when choosing, treat the showcase file as authoritative and do not invent theme names from memory.

Case 2: When none of the 10 presets fit, generate a custom theme. The notes require generating a new theme in a similar style from the input you provide, then applying it to the finished work. This fits when brand colors are not in the presets and you still want the same color/type rules. The notes do not write required fields for generating a theme, and do not write whether a custom theme is written back to a theme directory; so you can only “generate and show from the description, apply after you agree.” Do not let it change the formal file before you have seen the new theme.

Boundaries

There is no install command: the existing notes only define what the skill does and give no install command; do not treat the page path as an installer. The operation order cannot be skipped: you must first show theme-showcase.pdf and ask for a choice; the showcase file itself must not be modified. Apply boundary: after a choice, read the theme file, apply colors and type uniformly, and keep contrast and readability; the notes do not list every theme filename. Custom boundary: generate a new theme only when none of the existing ones fit, and only from the input you provide. Finished-work types named are slides, documents, reports, HTML landing pages, and the like; they do not say it works beyond those types, and they do not write which concrete editing software is supported.
