agentOS
A lightweight WebAssembly-isolated operating system giving each agent separate files, Shell, and network access.
About agentOS
agentOS is a lightweight agent operating system from Rivet that gives each agent separate files, processes, Shell, and network access, isolated with WebAssembly. Rivet says each execution uses about 22 MB of memory, below the roughly 1024 MB minimum for a sandbox. Each agent has a persistent POSIX file system that can mount S3, Google Drive, or a host directory, and supports agent frameworks including Pi, Claude Code, Codex, and OpenCode. Set process, memory, socket, and execution-time limits per VM, deploy on Rivet Cloud or self-host, and install free through npm under the Apache 2.0 open-source license.
Best for
Best use cases
Provide agents with an independent persistent file system and execution environment
Run multiple agent frameworks in the same virtual operating system
Run agents on your own hardware with about 22 MB of memory per execution
Set process, memory, and execution-time limits for agent VMs
Features
All-in-one agent runtime
Provides each agent with files, processes, Shell, and network access in one package, isolated with WebAssembly.
Persistent POSIX file system
Each agent has an independent persistent POSIX file system and can mount S3, Google Drive, a host directory, or a full sandbox.
Multi-runtime and framework compatibility
Runs Bash, Node.js, Python, and registry packages in the same isolated VM, supporting Pi, Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode, and other frameworks.
Resource limits and deployment flexibility
Set process, memory, file, socket, and execution-time limits per VM, with Rivet Cloud or self-hosted deployment.
Pros
- One package delivers files, processes, Shell, and network with WebAssembly isolation
- Rivet says each execution uses about 22 MB of memory, below the roughly 1024 MB minimum for a sandbox
- Supports both Rivet Cloud hosting and self-hosting
- Open source under Apache 2.0 and installable through npm
