Cortex Docs
An open-source API knowledge layer: generate type-safe SDKs, interactive documentation, and MCP servers for AI agents from API specifications.
About Cortex Docs
Cortex Docs is an open-source API knowledge layer for developers and AI agents. It converts specifications such as OpenAPI, AsyncAPI, GraphQL, Protocol Buffer, and OpenRPC, driven by a single configuration file, into three kinds of artifacts: explorable interactive documentation, type-safe SDKs, and MCP servers for AI agents to call. The generated type-safe clients follow the conventions of each language and include authentication, timeouts, streaming, retries, and package metadata. 11 languages are officially supported. The Eta templates used for generation are open — you can export and override any template, publish the generated packages to your own repositories, and deploy the documentation anywhere Node can run.
Best for
Best use cases
A unified pipeline that produces documentation, SDKs, and MCP tools simultaneously from specifications such as OpenAPI and GraphQL
Batch-generating API clients that follow each language's conventions for multilingual teams
Providing directly callable MCP tools and servers for AI agents
Teams that need to customize code generation templates and publish artifacts to their own repositories
Features
Interactive Documentation
Generate explorable interactive documentation from API specifications, deployable in any Node runtime environment.
Type-Safe SDKs
The generated type-safe clients follow each language's conventions and include authentication, timeouts, streaming, retries, and package metadata.
MCP Services for AI Agents
Generate MCP tools and MCP servers for AI agents, allowing agents to call APIs directly.
Multi-Protocol Support
Supports five specifications — OpenAPI, AsyncAPI, GraphQL, Protocol Buffer, and OpenRPC — driven by a single configuration file.
Open Templates
Export and override any Eta template to publish artifacts to your own repositories, avoiding lock-in.
Pros
- Generate documentation, SDKs, and MCP servers from multiple API specification sources with a single configuration
- The generated type-safe clients include common handling such as authentication, timeouts, streaming, and retries
- Open templates let you freely deploy artifacts to your own repositories and Node environments, with no lock-in
