OpenAI Announces Three AI Breakthroughs in Math, CS, and Physics
On October 27, OpenAI announced three research breakthroughs by its AI models in mathematics, computer science, and physics. In mathematics, it gave a proof of the local smoothness conjecture in all dimensions, thereby resolving the Kakeya conjecture and the Stein restriction conjecture; in computer science, it gave a proof refuting the Exponential Time Hypothesis (ETH), suggesting faster algorithms may exist for related computational tasks; in physics, it proposed a rigorous existence proof for a unified completion of quantum chromodynamics and the Standard Model, touching on part of the Yang–Mills Millennium Problem.
