Install
git clone https://github.com/seranking/seo-skills .claude/skills/seo-skillsWho It's For
- Users who need to do SEO work in agents like Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, or OpenClaw: technical audits, keyword research, content briefs, structured data (schema), and GEO/AI visibility analysis.
- It is a curated list (Awesome list) and does not provide data itself: most SEO skills are just operating instructions, and the numbers come from MCP servers or APIs you connect separately (such as Search Console, DataForSEO, Firecrawl). Installing a skill without connecting a data source usually means the setup is only half done.
- Not a good fit if: you want out-of-the-box real ranking or crawl data without configuring API/MCP data sources; or your agent does not support loading skills in the SKILL.md format (this format is an open standard, but the official docs do not list per-platform support exhaustively—do not assume support before confirming). The maintainers also note: repositories without a license file are not covered by free-copy authorization, so check the license before installing.
Your First Try in 3 Minutes
Recommended main path: clone the seranking/seo-skills skill pack listed in the repo into Claude Code's project-level skills directory.
- Prerequisites: git is installed locally, and your Claude Code project directory is open. Before installing, read the repo's SKILL.md and accompanying scripts—skills run with your permissions and API keys.
- Install (project-level):
git clone https://github.com/seranking/seo-skills .claude/skills/seo-skills
The official docs also describe a user-level option: clone into ~/.claude/skills/seo-skills (available across all projects).
- Activate it in the agent: restart the agent or open a new session. Officially, most agents only load a skill when the task matches its description, so phrase your request close to the skill's description.
- Low-risk first task: ask it to run a read-only SEO diagnostic on one page or site, e.g. "audit this URL for technical SEO issues." This kind of analytical task is a suitable starting point; whether the skill reads/writes files, executes commands, or accesses the network is not stated in official evidence and is unknown—confirm every action it intends to take before execution.
- Success signal: in a new session, the agent outputs structured results such as a technical audit, keywords, or a content brief according to the skill's instructions—that means the skill was loaded. Note: what it produces is textual advice; it does not mean it actually crawled data or modified your files. Without a data source connected, results may lack real numbers.
Use Cases
Case 1: Technical SEO audit Scenario: you suspect a page has crawl or indexing issues. Prompt the agent: "Using the installed SEO skill, audit https://example.com/page for technical SEO issues." It will use the corresponding technical-audit skill workflow from the repo and produce a checklist of issues you can verify. What can be confirmed up to this point: the skill is installed and loaded once the session matches; the actual audit depth depends on the data sources you've connected.
Case 2: Content brief Scenario: you need a new article for a target keyword. Prompt: "Use the SEO skill to generate a content brief for keyword X." It will follow the keyword-research/content-brief workflow and output a brief with a suggested structure and key points. Without APIs like Search Console or DataForSEO connected, real numbers such as search volume in the brief will be unavailable—this is an explicitly documented dependency, not a skill flaw.
Usage Boundaries
- Files and commands: installation is a git clone into a project- or user-level skills directory; the skill runs with your permissions and API keys, and you should read the SKILL.md and accompanying scripts before running. Whether it reads/writes user files or executes shell commands is not officially documented and is unknown.
- Network: crawl, ranking, and similar data require MCP servers or APIs you configure separately; until then, the skill can only provide process- and instruction-level output.
- Checkpoints: before cloning a third-party repo, check the license (no license file means default copyright protection—copying is not freely permitted); before letting the agent perform any action that modifies files or calls external services, confirm the side effects.
- Runtime environments: the skill format is an open standard, and officially it can be used across Claude Code, Claude.ai, Claude API, Codex, Cursor, Gemini CLI, Antigravity, OpenClaw, and Windsurf, but each skill's behavior on each platform has not been individually verified.
- Unconfirmed items: supported target text languages, each skill's exact file and command list, and whether files are modified automatically—all are subject to each SKILL.md; the list page does not specify them.
