About Edgemetry

Edgemetry is a privacy-first, lightweight website analytics tool that can be self-hosted on Cloudflare. It needs only one Worker and one D1 database, with no cookies or consent banner. It provides five metrics—visitors, page views, pages per visit, bounce rate, and average duration—each with a mini trend chart and a previous-period comparison; clicking any data row narrows all dashboards in sync, with breakdowns by page, source, country, browser, device, and more. Visitor counting uses a daily random-salt SHA-256 hash, and the salt is deleted after two days. The Deploy button automatically copies the repository, creates a D1 database, and deploys the Worker without an API token; the official documentation says the free tier can cover about 20,000 visits per day.

Best for

Personal site owners who want to self-host website analytics on their own domain
Site operators who value visitor privacy and want cookie-free analytics
Developers already using Cloudflare who want to take advantage of its free tier

Best use cases

Add privacy-friendly traffic analytics to a personal website or blog

Break down and compare data from the previous period by page, landing page, exit page, source, country, device, and other dimensions

Click any data row to apply linked filters and focus on a traffic combination for a specific page, country, or device

Compare before choosing

The official comparison page says Edgemetry is intended for scenarios where Google Analytics is overkill, Plausible Cloud is an ongoing bill, and running Docker on a VPS is too much infrastructure for a personal website.

Features

Five core metrics

Visitors, page views, pages per visit, bounce rate, and average duration, each with a mini trend chart and a previous-period comparison.

Composable filters

Click any data row to narrow all dashboards in sync, and freely combine conditions such as page, country, and device.

Multidimensional breakdowns

Break down data by page, landing page, exit page, source, country, browser, operating system, device, screen size, and UTM tags.

Cookie-free visitor counting

Count with sha256 (daily random salt + site_id + IP address + User-Agent); the salt changes daily and is deleted after two days.

Pros

  • The official documentation says the free tier comfortably covers about 20,000 visits per day; after switching to a paid plan, the architecture stays the same.
  • No cookies, localStorage, or persistent identifiers; visitor hashes use the same daily-salt approach as Plausible.
  • One-click deployment automatically creates a D1 database and deploys the Worker, with no need to generate or paste an API token.
  • All dashboards narrow in sync with the selected row, and filters can be freely combined.

Cons

  • The official documentation says the Deploy button requires a GitHub or GitLab account; terminal deployment (npx wrangler deploy) does not.
  • Updates are not automatic according to the official documentation: there is no automatic redeployment, so you must merge the version-update PR opened by the workflow yourself.

FAQ

Click the Deploy button and sign in to Cloudflare. The repository is copied to your GitHub or GitLab account, the D1 database is created automatically, and the Worker is deployed without generating or pasting an API token. You can also deploy from the terminal with npx wrangler deploy, without a GitHub or GitLab account.
Visitors are counted with sha256 (daily random salt + site_id + IP address + User-Agent). The salt is generated randomly each day and deleted after two days, so that day's hash cannot be recomputed or linked to another date.
