Multi
A former native macOS collaboration app that paired team calls with screen sharing, shared cursors, drawing, and consensual remote control.
Multi joined OpenAI and announced shutdown for July 24, 2024.
About Multi
Multi was a native macOS collaboration app built for software teams that needed to work inside the same application during a call. Screen sharing came with shared cursors, drawing, and consensual remote control, so teammates could review code, reproduce a bug, or walk through a product without repeatedly passing control. The Free plan included unlimited sessions lasting up to 90 minutes with as many as eight participants. Team removed the session limit and supported up to 40 people. Business added options such as API access, a bespoke security review, SSO, advanced administration, and priority support. Shared control worked only while a screen was being shared, required agreement from both people, and could be overridden or stopped by the sharer. AI summaries were opt-in, with encrypted transcription storage and access limited to call participants. Multi joined OpenAI and announced that the app would shut down on July 24, 2024. It is now useful as a product record, not as a collaboration tool for a new deployment.
Best for
Best use cases
Collaborative coding and debugging sessions
Remote product and design walkthroughs
Team calls that need recording or summaries
Compare before choosing
Free limits sessions to 90 minutes and 8 participants
Team raises capacity to 40 and removes the duration cap
Business adds security, API, SSO, and support options
Features
Pair programming
Run a focused coding session in which teammates inspect the same application, point to exact lines or interface states, annotate the shared screen, and grant shared control when one person needs to make a change directly. This keeps review, discussion, and hands-on editing in one live workflow.
Remote debugging
Reproduce a bug inside a teammate’s shared application, trace the failing behavior together, and use consensual shared control to test a fix without repeatedly stopping the call or passing control back and forth. Both people can follow the same state while the sharer keeps final control.
Product walkthroughs
Guide engineers, designers, or stakeholders through a live interface while participants use shared cursors and drawing to flag specific details, discuss behavior in context, and verify changes during the same call. This gives feedback a visible location instead of separating it from the product screen.
Pros
- Free included unlimited sessions, shared cursors, drawing, and shared control.
- Two-way consent and an override control reduced the risk of unwanted remote input.
- The native macOS workflow combined calls and app collaboration without a separate remote-control tool.
Cons
- The homepage announced shutdown on July 24, 2024, preventing new long-term adoption.
- The native app targeted macOS, which limited compatibility for mixed-platform teams.
- Free sessions stopped at 90 minutes and eight participants, while several paid features were marked coming soon.
