About Traccia

Traccia is an AI agent control plane for observability, evaluation, governance, and runtime policy enforcement of AI agents in production. Instrument once with the open-source OpenTelemetry SDK and send traces to your own stack or the managed Traccia platform. Traccia is organized around four stacked pillars: visibility (capturing a complete trace of every agent run, including sessions, tool calls, prompts, and errors), evaluation, governance, and policy enforcement. Its policy engine can hard-block mid-execution, stopping runaway costs, infinite loops, and PII leaks before they reach production.

Best for

Teams that need observability and audit capabilities for AI agents in production
Enterprise teams that need governance, policy enforcement, and compliance (such as PII redaction)
Developers building agents with Python or TypeScript
Teams that want to export traces to their own observability stack (Jaeger, Grafana Tempo, Zipkin, etc.)

Best use cases

Observe, evaluate, govern, and enforce policies for AI agents in production

Hard-block runaway costs, infinite loops, and PII leaks mid-execution

Use Metadata-only mode on sensitive production workloads, capturing only the data your compliance posture allows

Compare two experiments on the same dataset, review differences in scores, cost, and latency, then decide whether to ship

Compare before choosing

According to the official comparison page, LangSmith works best when using LangChain, while Traccia is OpenTelemetry-native and works across every framework you use today and adopt later, with a switch that can be completed in an afternoon via pip install traccia.

According to the official comparison page, other tools only alert after the fact, while Traccia's policy engine can hard-block mid-execution, stopping runaway costs, infinite loops, and PII leaks before they reach production.

Features

Visibility

Capture a complete trace of every agent run, including sessions, tool calls, prompts, and errors, with support for Python and TypeScript.

Policy Enforcement

A policy engine that can hard-block mid-execution, preventing runaway costs, infinite loops, and PII leaks from reaching production.

PII Redaction

Built-in PII redaction is enabled by default and can be explicitly configured with init(redact_pii=True) to mask emails, US phone numbers, and SSN-like patterns; currently pattern-based, with ML detection on the roadmap.

Data Mode Selection

Offers a Full-trace mode for development and debugging, and a Metadata-only mode for sensitive production workloads, capturing only the data your compliance posture allows.

Experiment Comparison

Select a baseline and a candidate on the same dataset, review differences in scores, cost, and latency, then decide whether to ship.

CLI Tools

Provides a command-line interface for managing configuration, validating settings, and diagnosing connection issues, and manages the SDK's local LLM pricing snapshot used for cost estimation.

Pros

  • OpenTelemetry-native, works across frameworks, and can export traces to your own observability stack
  • Policy engine can hard-block mid-execution rather than just alerting after the fact
  • Built-in PII redaction, enabled by default
  • All paid plans include unlimited users with no per-seat charges

FAQ

Yes. Traccia supports exporting traces to your own observability stack, working with Jaeger, Grafana Tempo, Zipkin, and any OpenTelemetry-compatible backend, with no account required, using standard OTLP export.
Yes. PII redaction is enabled by default to protect sensitive data. It can be explicitly configured with init(redact_pii=True) to mask emails, US phone numbers, and SSN-like patterns, or controlled manually with redact_string(). It is currently pattern-based; ML-based detection is on the roadmap.
No per-seat charges. All paid plans include unlimited users, so you can invite your entire team without worrying about per-person billing.
Data is encrypted in transit with TLS 1.3 and at rest with AES-256. API keys and credentials are never written to logs.
