Codebuff
Terminal-based AI coding assistant that edits repositories and runs commands from natural-language instructions.
About Codebuff
Codebuff is an AI coding assistant designed for developers who prefer to work from the terminal. After installing the npm package globally, you open a project directory and run `codebuff` to give natural-language instructions. It can edit files in the codebase and execute terminal commands, so it fits into existing IDE terminals as well as standalone shells. An optional `/init` command creates project-specific guidance and can help users begin defining custom agents; existing AGENTS.md and CLAUDE.md files are also read. Conversation history is stored locally under the Codebuff configuration directory. Pricing combines monthly subscriptions for higher usage limits with pay-as-you-go credits: the listed subscriptions are $100 per month for 1x usage, $200 per month for 2.5x usage, and $500 per month for 7x usage, while usage-based billing costs 1 cent per credit. Credit consumption varies with task complexity and is shown per task. That leaves a clear tradeoff between flexibility and predictable spending: occasional users can pay for consumed credits, but complex repository changes cost more credits and teams that need steadier capacity may prefer a subscription.
Best for
Best use cases

Running an AI coding assistant inside an IDE terminal
Initializing project guidance or starting custom-agent setup
Compare before choosing
Pay-as-you-go suits intermittent use, while subscriptions offer higher usage limits
The terminal interface fits command-line habits but requires Node and npm
Complex tasks consume more credits than simple queries, so costs can vary
